Global Economic Update

  • In the Eurozone, the seasonally adjusted trade surplus fell higher-than-expected to EUR 19.00 billion in October, compared to a revised level of EUR 24.50 billion in the last month. The non-seasonally adjusted trade surplus decreased more-than-anticipated to EUR 18.90 billion in October, compared to a level of EUR 26.40 billion in the previous month.
  • In the US, the industrial production climbed less-than-expected 0.20% on a MoM basis in November, compared to an advance of 1.20% in the prior month. The capacity utilization rose lower-than-anticipated to 77.10% in November, compared to a reading of 77.00% in the last month. The manufacturing production jumped less-than-anticipated 0.20% on a MoM basis in November, compared to rise of 1.40% in the previous month. The NY Empire State manufacturing index declined to 18.00 in December, compared to a level of 19.40 in the last month.
  • In Japan, the total merchandise trade surplus fell less-than-expected to Yen 113.40 billion in November, compared to a trade surplus of Yen 285.40 billion in the last month. Imports rose lower-than-expected 17.20% on a YoY basis in November, compared to a rise of 18.90% in October. The adjusted merchandise trade surplus advanced more-than-expected to Yen 364.10 billion in November, compared to a trade surplus of Yen 265.00 billion in the prior month. Exports climbed 16.20% on an annual basis in November, compared to a rise of 14.00% in the previous month.
